Remember that dress from this post ?
Last week we spent 5 days and 4 nights in NOLA to celebrate the wedding between two of our absolute favorite people, Meghann & Alex! It was my very first time in New Orleans so I had no clue what to expect. Almost all of our friends that attended the wedding already lived there or had been there many times, so it was super interesting taking what everyone had said about it and seeing it with my own eyes.
A week or so before we had left, I spent a few hours organizing our new closet (deets to come! very exciting stuff!) and putting away all of our Summer clothes. I love Summertime just as much as the next person, but there's something I love about Fall and it's crispiness that I look forward to every time September/October rolls around. Needless to say - we had checked our mentally and closet wise when it came to packing for 85* and humidity for NOLA, but we managed!
We arrived on a Wednesday and stepped off the plane into full fledged Summertime. It was a good 87* with a blanket of clamminess the moment you hit fresh air. There are not many things I hate in the universe more than humidity, but it was doable the moment we hopped in to an ice cold cab.
We arrived at the house we had rented for our stay and were pleasantly surprised! We Airbnb'd a house in the Bywater area which was walking distance to lots of awesome bars and restaurants. The owner was insanely nice, accommodating and happen to own the whole house, so she lived on one side and then rents out the other side! It was a perfectly eclectic & funky house with more than enough space and privacy - we got super lucky!!!
On the drive from the airport to the house, I felt like we had been transplanted in to a different country. Every house was a different color, one brighter than the next - all "railroad style" what we call it here up North, or "shotgun" style as they call it down South. Outside every house including ours, were huge palm tree's, funky mailboxes, people sitting on their porches or stoops, and architecture that made me feel as though we were in the Caribbean...
As soon as we arrived, we hosed off the airplane stink, unpacked a bit and headed out to meet up with our friends on Frenchmen street! Somehow after a long day of traveling we managed to stay awake & out until around 1:00am, but then we crashedddd.
Day 2 was Rehearsal Dinner night. We spent the day exploring Bourbon street (if you're in NOLA you HAVE to go there at least once, right?) and meeting up with my Sister In Law Avery who just started school at Tulane Uni close by. The streets were full of crazies, horse and buggy's, lotsss of people day-drinking, college kids, locals, and just about everything in between !
Apparently NOLA is one of the few states in America where it's acceptable to walk around with drinks in public ... "to-go" cups are what's up, so naturally we got ourselves some massive daiquiris and continued our exploring.
Later that evening we headed home to clean up, and head back out to meet the bridal party and family members of the bride and groom for a Rehearsal Dinner aboard the Steamboat Natchez Riverboat , which was super cool & way bigger than I thought it would be! After a few hours of eating, drinking, making toasts & watching the sun set , we headed to Hotel Monteleone/Carousel Piano Bar in the French Quarter for the after party.
The day of the wedding I spent the day with all the ladies in the bridal party while they got hair and makeup done & Chris went with all the fellas and groomsmen until we all met later that evening for the wedding itself! It was held at a beautiful golf course/club house in Audubon Park, NOLA . We spent the night snapping pictures, drinking lots of champagne, & dancing the night away under the stars and twinkly lights. <3
Our last day in NOLA was spent walking around, catching up with friends, eating a lot, packing and going to bed at a reasonable time since we were leaving the next morning.
All in all we had a great trip but it flewwwwww by! The wedding was so amazing but the best part of the whole trip was getting to see so many of our friends in one place - all in which we don't see nearlyyyy enough... (someone invent time travel already!!)
Looks like we'll be going back before we know it for some more adventures... :-)
